À propos de ce matériau

Vinyl siding is a PVC-based exterior cladding available in a wide range of profiles, colors, and textures. Common profiles include Dutch Lap (beveled overlap), clapboard (horizontal lap), board-and-batten (vertical), and shake/shingle styles. Standard panels are 12 to 12.5 feet long with a 4 to 5-inch exposed face, yielding approximately 2 sq ft of wall coverage per linear foot of panel. Vinyl siding is sold by the square (100 sq ft) or by the carton (typically 200 sq ft per carton). Prices range from $60 to $100 per square for basic siding to $150 to $250 per square for premium insulated or architectural-grade products. Insulated vinyl siding has a foam backer that adds R-2 to R-5 insulation and creates a flatter, more rigid panel. Accessories include J-channel, F-channel, utility trim, starter strip, inside and outside corner posts, and soffit panels, which can add 20-30% to the total material cost.

Conseils de pose

  • Install on a flat, plumb substrate.
  • Leave 1/4" gaps at all trim for thermal expansion.
  • Do not face-nail vinyl — use the nail slot.
  • Work from bottom to top, overlapping courses.

Erreurs courantes à éviter

  • Face-nailing vinyl — it will buckle in summer heat.
  • Not leaving expansion gaps at trim — causes buckling.
  • Installing in very cold weather — vinyl becomes brittle.
