À propos de ce matériau

HardiePlank (James Hardie fiber cement siding) is a lap siding made from a mixture of cement, sand, and cellulose fiber. Standard HardiePlank boards are 12 feet long and 6.25 inches wide with a 5-inch exposed face, covering approximately 1.17 sq ft per linear foot at 4-inch exposure. Fiber cement siding is fire-resistant (non-combustible), insect-resistant, rot-proof, and dimensionally stable — it does not expand and contract with temperature changes like vinyl or wood. HardiePlank is available in smooth or woodgrain textures, factory pre-primed or factory pre-painted (ColorPlus Technology) in dozens of colors. Pricing ranges from $1.00 to $1.50 per sq ft for primed boards and $1.50 to $2.50 for pre-painted. HardiePlank carries a 30-year non-prorated limited warranty when properly installed. Related products include HardiePanel (4x8 vertical sheets), HardieShingle (shake-style panels), and HardieTrim (trim boards). Fiber cement is heavier than vinyl (about 2.5 lbs per sq ft) and requires specific cutting tools to manage silica dust.

Conseils de pose

  • Use fiber cement specific nails (hot-dipped galvanized or stainless).
  • Paint cut ends with matching touch-up paint.
  • Maintain 6" clearance from grade and 1" from finished grade.
  • Use a fiber cement shear blade to reduce dust.

Erreurs courantes à éviter

  • Using regular nails — corrosion causes staining.
  • Not sealing cut ends.
  • Installing without back-priming in high-moisture areas.
